Amazing Grace

explanation of the 6 movements

When I became a Christian in '82 I knew I wanted to praise God with the gift He had granted me, but at the time I didn't know any religious songs. The only song I vaguely knew was Amazing Grace. So I set out to do an instrumental arrangement for my praise song to God for His gift of salvation.

As the arrangement progressed I thought at the time it was strange that I would change to a minor key in the middle. It wasn't until a few years later that it was revealed to me that the arrangement covers the entire life of Christ.

My arrangement of “Amazing Grace” is done in 6 movements and as you listen to each movement please reflect upon what each represents.

1^st MOVEMENT It begins with the birth of Christ, where the angel proclaimed “Unto you this day is born a Savior who is Christ the Lord”.

2^nd MOVEMENT Is the baptism of Christ this is where the dove descended from heaven and a voice was heard saying “This is My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased”.

3^rd MOVEMENT Is the ministry of Christ where He healed the sick, caused the blind to see and raised the dead. He proclaimed Himself to be God and that He and the Father were one. Now this infuriated the religious leaders of the day, The high priests, the Pharisees and scribes who thought that Christ was blasphemous. Which brings us to the:

4^th MOVEMENT The crucification of Christ. This is where the music changes to the minor key. A darkness fell upon the whole land and the veil of the temple ( the entrance into the Holy of Holies) was torn from top to bottom, granting those who believe in Christ free access to God the Father for Jesus said “ I Am the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father but through Me”.

5^th MOVEMENT The resurrection On the third day they came with perfume and spices to anoint Jesus where he was buried only to find that the stone had been rolled away. They believed that someone had stolen their Lord but the angels spoke to them and said “Why do seek the living One among the dead. He is not here, for He has risen”.

6^th MOVEMENT Eternity You will hear the harps of heaven where those who believe will live in eternity. Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb. Who's names are written in the Book Of Life, for death no longer has power over you, and you will live in eternity with Christ Our Lord.

Let us begin with the birth of Christ.
